Keeping Vanessa out of the pilot could have just been a deliberate move to set up the romance between Dan and Serena. While Dan’s BFF Vanessa is one of the most important characters on Gossip Girl, she’s nowhere to be seen in the first episode. When we first meet Vanessa, she’s there to bring conflict to Dan and Serena’s relationship. She later causes trouble with pretty much every other character on the show to the point that it almost seems like she only exists as a character to keep the drama rolling. We don’t get to know Dan’s little sister, Jenny, too well in the first episode of the series.
When she leaves, she tells Chuck what she saw and he heads back in to investigate. The next morning, Bart explains to him that he had to fake his death to avoid having the entire family murdered by one of his competitors. However, Holland finds Serena that night and reveals that Rufus cheated on Lily with her (It’s a Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad World).
Later that night, Georgina Sparks outs Eric as being gay and Lily calls Rufus to tell him about the evening . In Woman on the Verge, Lily helps Serena overcome her role in Pete Fairman’s death. As she lied to Dan about several things to cover it up, she asks Lily to take her to a concert where Rufus will be performing because Dan will be there. Afterwards, he chases her down and kisses her; despite knowing she’s marrying Bart the next day.

Plaid shirts and a deep love for his daughter, even if he can’t quite provide everything she wants. Yes, we dared to “Dair.” BYE HATERS. Seriously, these two, out of all the main characters, were the most well-suited for each other. They had such a rich history and star-crossed—or crosstown, to be more precise—romance that was not paid its proper respect in the end. We won’t lie, we were into Serena hooking up with Nate’s married politician cousin at first…before he left her at the scene of a car accident. BY MOVING HER UNCONSCIOUS BODY. Talk about taking ghosting to a whole new level.
This causes Nate to become jealous of their relationship because of his lingering feelings for Blair. Eventually, Nate professes to Blair that he loves her more than he ever loved Serena. However, he ends up with neither Serena or Blair as he leaves to travel on a boat to avoid becoming in between the two. Lily heads upstairs to be alone, and Serena and Eric also excuse themselves, but not before Nate arrives in the apartment. At the end of the series he sails around the world with a friend of his father’s, Captain Charles “Chips” White to avoid getting in between Blair and Serena again. In I Will Aways Love You, on break from Deep Springs College, Nate chooses Blair in part I and then Serena in part II.
And yet, over the next few episodes, Rufus continues to wear the scarf—a sign of both his thriftiness and an unresolved story line with Holland. At the beginning of season three, Rufus is embracing the Hamptons lifestyle, vacationing at the Rhodes’ summerhouse. Lily is away, supporting her mother, CeCe Rhodes, during medical treatments. Throughout the episode, Rufus wears a blue plaid button-down over a white undershirt, a necklace half hidden. His plaid shirt is pure Humphrey, but his cord necklace is gone, never to appear again.
We never know what actually happened between Rufus and Holland that one night, but it couldn’t compare to Lily’s actual confession of kissing her ex husband/secret doctor. She tried with Nate, she tried with Dan , she tried with Dan’s secret half-brother, and I think she even hooked up with Chuck. The writers could just never seem to make Vanessa’s relationships work, which is disappointing. Remember how Chuck attempted to sexually assault Jenny in the first season, and then later she ended up losing her virginity to him willingly? While a platonic couple, yes, no one loved each other more on G.G. While Vanyas and Chucks may come and go, these two are family forever.

Bart plans to divorce her, but Ivy thinks the plan is too soft. She tries to set up Bart to make it look like they slept together, but is stopped when Chuck arrives; and Lily gets the records thanks to Rufus and ends the ordeal. In It’s Really Complicated, Lily learns of the death of Bass business manager, Bruce Caplan. Blair and Chuck link his death along with Sheikh Hassan’s back to Bart and Bass Industries, and Lily realizes she was wrong for trusting Bart over Chuck and heads out of town for a spa week. In the series finale New York, I Love You XOXO, she learns of Bart’s death while still at the spa and returns to town to have a funeral the same as the first.

Since joiningYoung & Restless, Morgan’s played both the ill-fated Hilary Curtis Hamilton and the twin sister who never got to know her, Amanda Sinclair.
If you didn’t pay close attention, you might not have noticed that this is the only episode in which Florencia Lozanodepicts the character. In subsequent episodes, the role is played by actress Margaret Colin. However, this was later revealed as mere coincidence, asGossip Girl’s executive producer Joshua Safran came out and admitted in 2019 that Dan was not the first choice for Gossip Girl . It’s a quick blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene, but it’s a great, subtle hint that alludes to Chuck and Blair’s future. You may have watchedGossip Girl in its entirety several times, but how much attention did you really pay to its first episode?
